About Eagle Crest
Club History
- 1963 Club formed as Northway
Heights Golf Club by the Gino Turchi Family.
- 1965 Turchi Family, Gino, Willie & GiGi
open first nine holes(which
is now the back nine) on June 12.
- 1967 The second nine, also
designed by Gino Turchi, opens on July 13.
- 1991 Club and property is sold in
February to the William Paulsen
family and the name is changed to Eagle Crest Golf Club, Inc.
Significant Club Events, Upgrades and
Improvements
- December 7, 1980 Gino Turchi
makes first and still only hole in one from back
tee of hole #17.
- February 1991 Course
Superintendent, David Gordon, is hired and continues his
fine work through present.
- Spring 1991 Nines reversed front
to back and back to front giving the course
one of the areas most demanding finishing five holes.
- June 1991 Practice Range opens.
Ron Philo is clubs first teaching professional.
- Winter 1991 Clubhouse completely
renovated. Banquet bookings begin under the
new Paulsen ownership.
- Winter 1992 Pond expansion
fronting #13 green. Bunkering and drainage programs
begin and remain ongoing through present.
- Spring 1992 Championship tee
expansion and changes.
- Spring 1993 PGA Golf
Professional, Jim Jeffers, is hired.
- Spring 1994 Pro Shop and Cart
Barn are built and golf operations are moved to the
present location. Water system modernized with heads installed on
greens and tees.
- Spring 1995 Players Park:
miniature golf, lighted pitch n'putt and snack bar opens.
- May 24, 1994 Eagle Crest
Shoot-Out, one of the areas top amateur events begins annually.Bill
Moll, one of the clubs long time top players wins the inaugural event.
- Spring 1997 Major renovations to
daily food service area are completed and reopens
as Duffer’s Tavern, serving fine fare and spirits for daily golfers,
league players and tournament events.
- September 8, 1998 Course Record
set by David Gunus of Amston, CT who shoots a 63 from the Championship
tees to win the North Atlantic Tour event.
- Spring 1999 Automated watering
system installed for all greens, tees and approach areas.
- Summer 1999 Complete set of
forward tees finished providing alternate teeing ground
for many senior and junior players.
- Fall 2002 Watered fairways
connected to the automated system of 1999 giving the club a
complete irrigation system.
- November 2003 John Neet hired as
PGA Head Professional
- November 2004 Renovation and
rebuilding of number 12 green vastly improving one of the areas most
controversial putting surfaces.
- February 2005 Complete renovation
of Eagle Crest Ballroom, Saratoga Room & Augusta Room.
- January 1, 2007 Hired John (JP)
Peterson as PGA Professional.
2007 and beyond; always changing, always
evolving, always improving!!!!
